areUfit have run British Cycling’s Go-Ride courses all over Oxfordshire for the last two years. Youngsters between the ages of 7 & 14 learn basic cycling skills in a fun environment under the supervision and direction of qualified coaches.

So What is Go-Ride?

Go-Ride' is a Youth Cycling Award Scheme aimed at individuals aged 7-14 years, designed by British Cycling. It offers young people the opportunity to learn and develop safe cycling skills within a fun-based activity.

Go-Ride is designed to offer exciting challenges to all levels of ability. The nature of the sport, and the construction of the resources, grant cycling the potential to appeal to all young people, even those who are not keen on sport.

Go-Ride consists of 4 Levels (referred to as Gears), they are designed to aid a natural progression of beginner to accomplished cyclist.

Gears 1 and 2 are aimed at individuals aged 7 –12 or inexperienced riders.

Gears 3 and 4 are aimed at individuals aged 12 - 14 or riders who have the basic cycling skills or who have completed gears 1 & 2.

Brief Content:

  • Gear 1 = `Fun activities' covering bike handling and safety awareness issues.
  • Gear 2 = More advanced bike handling activities and introduction of the concept of cycle racing.
  • Gear 3 = Introduction of competition activities, breaking, dismounts, starts etc
  • Gear 4 = Introduction of more advanced skills, development of skills acquired in Gears 1-3 and inclusion of racing activities covering most cycle disciplines.

The courses are ideal as an after school activity, inclusive of all abilities and gender and most importantly - great fun for the riders!
